Spreading the Revolution

Getting the Word Out

The Center used a multi-pronged pubicity campaign to reach scholars, researchers, teachers and students. Staff disseminated flyers and postcards to thousands of high school teachers of World History, U.S. History and Modern European history throughout the United States and English-speaking schools overseas. They also timed the release of promotional materials with the start of fall semester 2008 and spring semester 2009. A marked increase of site traffic strongly suggests that such outreach was very effective.

The Center also offered presentations on Making the History of 1989 at numerous academic conferences, including the Slovak Embassy between October 2008 and April 2009. Among the conference attendees was none other than former President of the Soviet Union (and 1989 history maker) Mikhail Gorbachev.
