The Center for History and New Media at George Mason University has come to the conclusion that effective digital tools for scholars are forged mostly in practice rather than theory. Grant proposes to continue the work started at by Theodore Crackel and his team at East Stroudsburg State University in 1994. The purpose and goal is to make available some 50,000 War Department documents that have been recovered through a multi-year search of hundreds of repositories and to make this archive accessible online and free.

Continues work on the Papers of the War Department 1784-1800 project. Grant proposal requests 3 additional years of funding to further the migration of files and data to the CHNM campus and completion of the electronic architecture.
