Blogging

Began in 1980, Usenet was an early form of blogging. Users were able to post and comment on thousands of various categories, which were called newsgroups. 

Developed by Steve Mann in 1994, the Wearable Wireless Webcam was an example of life blogging. Amost achieving synchronicity, the video would update to a website, and included text and pictures. 

The first use of the word weblog was by Jorn Barger in 1997, who used it to describe the links on his blog. 

Open Diary was the first large blogging community, and was launched in 1998 by Bruce Abelson. 

Another popular blogging platform, LiveJournal was launched in 1999.

One of the earliest blogs by a digital historian, Dan Cohen begins blogging in November 2004 with the post "Welcome to My Blog." Blogging has since become almost ubiquitous in the digital humanities, and is slowly gaining popularity as a form of informal scholarly communication within the academy.
